Nose remodelling

More people are unhappy with the appearance of their nose than that of any other facial feature. People may feel their nose is too large, or may be unhappy with its shape, crookedness or even a bump. Whatever the dissatisfaction, nose remodelling can provide a solution. Rhinoplasty may also be used to correct structural deformities and alleviate breathing problems.

What is involved

Incisions are generally made inside the nose, and skin is gently lifted away from the nose structure. The nose is reshaped before nasal tissue and skin are repositioned. Sometimes a graft of cartilage is required. This will normally be taken from the septum, the strip between the nostrils.

Recovery time

Recovery is different for everyone, but generally after two weeks you should be able to go out in public without anyone noticing you have had surgery. Swelling will last longer, but will likely only be noticeable to the patient themselves. Swelling should be pretty much gone after three to four months. If you are planning a major event, however, it is best to give yourself six months to a year, when the nose will have its final shape.

Risks

Nose surgery, as with any other surgery, carries risks. It is important that you understand the risks of surgery before making any decision. If you consult with a surgeon who is not forthcoming about all aspects of surgery, including the risks, do not go ahead with the surgery.
