Liposuction

Liposuction is used to treat localised fat deposits. By removing fat, liposuction contours, slims and reshapes the body. Liposuction is popular for slimming thighs, abdomens, hips, buttocks and upper arms. It can also be used for calves, ankles, backs, chins, cheeks and inner knees.

What is involved

Small incisions are made in the area to be treated and a cannula (thin, hollow tube) is inserted. The cannula is pushed back and forth to loosen excess fat, which is then suctioned out of the body with a surgical vacuum or syringe.

Recovery time

Liposuction is a major procedure and full recovery takes time. You should expect to rest for about one week and resume gentle exercise at about one month. A compression bandage should be worn for several months. At three months you will begin to see a good shape, but it will take around six months for full results to show.

Risks

There are risks to having a liposuction procedures, just as there are with any surgery or cosmetic procedure. Choosing a qualified, experience surgeon will minimise risks. All risks should be fully explained before you agree to a liposuction procedure.
